Meniscus Tears
A tear in the cartilage in the knee. It can be caused by a sudden twist or repeated squatting.
Ligament Injuries
These include the ACL, PCL, MCL, and LCL. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is frequently injured in sports.
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
A broad term used to describe pain in the front of the knee and around the kneecap. Often seen in runners, basketball players, and those who participate in sports that require a lot of jumping.
Plica Syndrome
This is an inflammation of the lining of the knee joint. It can be painful but is usually not serious.
Chondromalacia Patella
The breakdown of cartilage under the kneecap.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
This is when the ligament that extends from the outside of your pelvic bone to the outside of your tibia becomes tight and inflamed.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease
Common in young athletes, it’s caused by irritation of the growth plate at the bottom of the knee.
