Sports Injuries

Sports injuries refer to the types of injuries that most commonly occur during sports or exercise. They can result from accidents, poor training practices, improper equipment, lack of conditioning, or insufficient warm-up and stretching. Here’s a brief overview of various types of sports injuries and some details related to each

Sprains and Strains

  • Sprains are injuries to ligaments, the tough bands connecting bones in our joints. A sprain is a stretch and/or tear of a ligament.
  • Strains are injuries to muscles or tendons, which anchor muscles to bones. Strains are often referred to as “pulled muscles.”

Knee Injuries

  • These can range from simple pain or swelling to more severe injuries like a torn ligament (e.g., ACL tear) or damaged cartilage (e.g., meniscus tear).

Tendonitis

  • Inflammation or irritation of a tendon. It’s often a result of overuse of the involved muscle-tendon unit.

Groin Pull

  • Straining of the inner thigh muscles.

Tennis or Golf Elbow

  • Overuse injury of the elbow tendons.

Achilles Tendon Injuries

  • Can range from inflammation (tendonitis) to a rupture.

Hamstring Strain

  • Injury to one or more of the three hamstring muscles at the back of the thigh.

Plantar Fasciitis

  • Inflammation of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot, leading to heel pain.

Rotator Cuff Injury

  • Injury to the group of muscles and their tendons that act to stabilize the shoulder.
